Latin Name – Lactuca sativa
Sowing Instructions – Indoors: January to March. Outdoors: March to April or September to November.
Sow thinly outside 1cm deep in rows 25cm apart in a well-prepared bed and lightly cover with fine soil & water carefully. Seedlings should germinate in 7-14 days. When large enough to handle thin seedlings to one every 15cm and then again a 2-3 weeks later to one every 30cm. Sow every 2-3 weeks for a continuous supply. Early sowings will benefit from sowing & potting on inside and transplanting outside later when soil has warmed up (April onwards). Late sowings will need added protection during winter months e.g. cloche etc.
Hints and Tips – In spring/summer keep soil moist especially during dry weather, weed free and protect early/late sowings with a cloche. Best to water in the morning as watering in the evening will increase the risk of disease.
Number of seeds – Approx 900
